PCOS.

So I am diagnosed with a benign condition that affects the plumbing system.

Which means that the irregular periods, the mood swings, the uncontrollable weight gain and the excess hair growth are attributed to this condition… it all came together for me as I sat in the doctor’s consultation room in silence.

I would not have expected this outcome if not for the ultrasound scan that he insisted on.

Should I go on some major self-pity session? I don’t want to. But it seems that I can’t help but feel quite depressed about it.

The doc ordered me to lose some weight… that is supposedly one of the best ways to manage the condition. But the more I am told to lose weight - the worse I feel about myself.

DAMMIT!!!

Hey Barf, Take care of yourself now. If you need an exercise buddy or some encouragement let me know. Losing weight is not that difficult if you have someone helping you along and encouraging you on the way.

I have polycystic ovaries although the hormone profile provided no conclusive diagnosis of PCOS. Anyway, I don’t care. I refuse to let this thing define me.

I do watch my weight if only because of hereditary risks of diabetes. I’m quite close to being overweight so I do go to the gym and all. Anyway, I know I snack a lot so that’s one easy place to cut calories down.

But just ordering you to lose weight just shows that your doctor doesn’t understand how tough it can be. Our hormones are against us. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’s not that easy either. You need a lot of patience, patience and cheerfulness (to keep yourself going when you realise you just put on another kg despite exercising like crazy).

There are more things you can do than just lose weight. Check out this website called Soul Cysters or something-very informative.
