Nippon Fascination.

Nippon Neon

Am currently furiously collecting information about travelling in Tokyo. Not in the near future, maybe when our savings hit the $5000 mark. It’s still not alot, but we are simple people who just want to explore the world.

Fascination with the metropolis didn’t just stem from anime and all their kinky sex antics, they come from everything like their fashion, music, language, culture, sights, and all that jazz. Actually, I would like to check out the Harajuku scene lah.

We know it’s one of the most expensive cities in the world, but after researching on the budget stays and the price of cheaper food, it’s most probably a possibly comfortable trip.

Now, the scariness will have to come from the extremely complicated network of subways, trains, and all that… jazz. Here in Singapore, it’s pretty straightforward. Either north-south, east-west, north-east and southwest… And throw in a couple of LRTs at the far edges and the curious Circle Line… It’s really quite simple.

But in Tokyo, there are about 4 +/- train/subway operators running around the most busy stations such as Tokyo station and Shinjuku station. I read that cabs are never the tourist (or even the natives’) choice of transport. Unless you want to end up chewing on grass, that is. The whole place is very well supported by the dense network, enough for us to get from the most popular place (read: crowded) to another popular place (read: sibeh crowded).

Darn. I can’t wait. On the to-visit list: The Shinjuku sky-scrapers that offers a free view of the metropolis, Kabukicho for the *ehem* kinky nightlife, Harajuku for the fashion + weirdly dressed girls + sidewalk cafes + arty stuff, Ebisu for the 2nd hand clothing, Ueno Park for the cheery blossom trees + museum + zoo, Akihabara for the high-techie stuff, Roppongi for the clubs + entertainment shebang, Asakusa for the traditional temples and old Japanese thingy… I could go on and on, but I seriously need to go do some serious work, seriously.

Now, let’s dream on. Dum dee dum.

kinky nightlife, weirdly dressed girls & “girls”, high-techie stuff … ahem and I thought someone wanted to pursue simplicity wor??? hmmm ….. *rolleyes* LOLz

$5000 for 2 pax huh? may I suggest Odaiba, rainbow brigde every lovely at night. in fact this place is very romantic at night. Hakone, Nikko if time permitting. you better wake up very early unless you want stay a night there. if you consider to go furthur with shinkansen, consider the JR Railpass which can only be purchase in JAL singapore office.

There are many more, Girl, but whatever you do. first stop you need to make at Narita Airport is the TIC (Tourist Information Centre). to grab whatever maps & information you need. The staffs are usually very helpful.

Ueno Park with all its lush greenery and cherry blossoms last year in April was simply beautiful - I was lucky to catch the blossoms for the week that it started blooming and died all in the space of 1 week. Beware though the timing for that can vary each year. Even the Japanese can probably only give accurate predictions of blooming 2 weeks in advance…
